U Venkateswarlu becomes new CS of Tripura

Agartala, Jun 11 (UNI) The 1986 batch IAS from Tripura cadre Dr U Venkateswarlu has taken over the charge of Chief Secretary (CS) of the state today.
He is the fourth CS in 15 months rule of BJP-IPFT government in Tripura.
In September last year, superseding three seniors including Venkateswarlu, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb made 1987 batch IAS Lalit Kumar Gupta as CS after the then incumbent Sanjeev Ranjan elevated to Chairman of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
With the elevation of Gupta has CS, Venkateswarlu was posted to Additional Chief Secretary in Raj Bhawan, next senior Dr G S G Ayyangar left the state and posted as Sr DDG of Indian Council of Medical Research and Sushil Kumar joined as Additional Secretary in Ministry of Agriculture.
A day after the result of Lok Sabha election, Gupta was removed from CS, as Chief Minister was not happy with his performance, especially during the election. Later, 1990 batch IAS Manoj Kumar was given temporary charge of CS but he was on leave and Principal Secretary to CM Kumar Alok was taken over till he was not joining on June 2 last.
Last night, the appointment of Venkateswarlu as CS was notified with charges of the General Administration (Confidential & Cabinet) and Planning (including Statistics) department. He will also hold the charge of Chairman, Executive Committee, Tripura Skill Development Mission, in addition, and until further orders.
However, Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar was given the charges of Power, Finance and Forest and Kumar Alok will continue to hold the charges of Home (excluding Jail & Fire Service), GA (P&T) and Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister.
Re-appointed retired IAS T K Chakma holding the post of Secretary, GA (SA) and GA (Political) will also hold the charges of Secretary to Governor Tripura in addition. Tripura government has not yet been able to make administrative set up till now that affects the development and made a section of Tripura Civil Service officers unhappy.
