Tyler Perry covertly supports the Turpin Family, Oprah Winfrey reveals at gala

Beverly Hills (California), Dec 8 (UNI) At the Paley Honors Fall Gala in Beverly Hills on December 4, Oprah Winfrey divulged Tyler Perry’s extraordinary but discreet philanthropic efforts.
Tyler Perry, an American playwright, actor, screenwriter, producer, and director, is known for his portrayal of the character Mabel “Madea” Simmons, an outspoken grandmother—combining humour, religious wisdom and personal triumph.
Speaking at the event, where Perry was honoured for his achievements in media, Winfrey highlighted his work as a "quiet Good Samaritan" who has been instrumental in helping the Turpin siblings rebuild their lives after years of horrific abuse.
The infamous 2018 "Turpin case" came into the spotlight when Jordan Turpin, then 17, escaped her family’s California home and alerted authorities about the years of abuse inflicted by her parents, David and Louise Turpin. It involved the abuse of children and dependent adults by their biological parents, David and Louise Turpin of Perris, California, U.S. The ages of the 13 victims ranged from 2 to 29 years old.
"Remember the Turpin children?" Winfrey asked those in attendance. "Diane Sawyer did a primetime special on these children who had been tortured and abused and locked in their home by their parents, and remember, the one daughter escaped out of the window and ran and told the neighbor?"
"Tyler saw that special, and he reached out, and until this moment, no one has known that Tyler Perry, 55, has been taking care of those now almost grown children, making sure they have the financial, the psychological and the emotional support to grow themselves forward," she continued, according to a report by the People.
David and Louise were eventually convicted on 14 felony counts and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Winfrey, 70, explained that Perry, deeply moved by the story, stepped in to ensure the children had the resources and support they needed to move forward. "He’s the healer, the fixer," she said.
"Most of his charity, no one ever sees or hears about. The majority of people watch the news and they think, 'Oh, what a shame,' [but] Tyler watches and says, 'What can I do to make a change?' " she added. UNI XC SSP
