Two minor girls drown in a village pond

Kendrapara, May 31 (UNI) A pall of gloom descended at Gajarajapur village under Rajkanika police station limit in this coastal district after two minor girls were drowned in a village pond during bath on Thursday.
Rajkanika police station IIC Sandhyarani Behera said the deceased girls have been identified as nine year old Lizarani Mallik, of Gajarajapur village and 11-year old Ruparani Sethy of Kanduriah village under Rajnagar police limit .
Lizarani was a class 3 student and Ruparani Sethy was a student of class 5th. Ruparani was staying at her uncle’s house at Gajarajapur .
On Thursday noon both the girls went to the nearby pond without informing to their parents and slipped in to the deep water of the pond while taking bath.
When the girls did not return the family members with the help of locals made a frantic search and managed to fish out their bodies from the pond water.
The family members later took the girls to Rajkanika CHC where the doctor declared them received dead.
The Rajkanika police later seized the body and sent it for autopsy to Aul community health centre.

COVID-19: Eight persons arrested on charges of pelting stones on Ambulance

Kolar, Karnataka, Jul 16 (UNI) Police have nabbed eight persons, who allegedly pelted stones on an ambulance carrying the body of a 57-year-old Covid-19 victim for last rites at a burial ground in Bangerpet, police said on Thursday
Police said that the locals, from Gangammanapalya and Kumabarapalya gathered in huge numbers and refused to make way for the ambulance to pass as they feared infection of the virus if the body was taken through their locality.
