Two merchants arrested with counterfeit currency in Thane

Thane, Jul 15 (UNI) Two cloth merchants from Ulhasnagar town of the district have been arrested by the police for allegedly possessing counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 6,000.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Crime Branch Unit-V laid a trap near a hotel in Veer Savarkar Nagar on Sunday and apprehended the duo on spotting them.
During the search, the police found the counterfeit notes worth Rs 6,000 of denominations of Rs 100 to Rs 500 and seized the currency notes from them, police said on Monday.

The alleged accused have been identified as Amjad Ibrahim Shaikh (38) and Ashok Keni (58).
An offence under sections 498(C) read with 34 of Indian Penal Code has been registered with the Vartak Nagar police station against the duo.
The police are now trying to find out the source of the currency and to whom they were planning to deliver, sources added.
