Two medicos rusticated in ragging case, half a dozen slapped with notices at IGMC Shimla

Shimla, Dec 15 (UNI) A ragging incident at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, has led to strict disciplinary action against senior students, once again bringing the issue of campus discipline into focus. Two senior MBBS students have been rusticated for three months and fined Rs 25,000 each, while six others have been issued disciplinary notices for their alleged involvement in the incident.
According to sources, the incident took place around three days ago when a junior MBBS student was allegedly called to a hostel late at night by second-year students and subjected to ragging. Though the episode reportedly lasted only five to ten minutes, the college administration treated the matter with seriousness in view of the zero-tolerance policy towards ragging.
The matter came to light after security personnel noticed the junior student entering the hostel through CCTV surveillance. As per existing rules, senior students are strictly prohibited from calling junior students to hostels, especially during night hours. Acting promptly, security staff reached the spot and informed the authorities.
