Washington, Nov 15 (UNI) At least two students were killed after a gunman opened fire at his classmates and shot self at Saugus High School in southern California.
The suspect, whose birthday was Thursday went to his school, pulled a pistol from his backpack and shot five classmates and himself in the head in 16 seconds, BBC reported.
During a press conference, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the suspect, who is critical, used a point 45 caliber semi-automatic pistol for crime.
Two victims, a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, died at a hospital.
Talking to reporters, Capt Kent Wegener of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said, 'I also want to acknowledge a posting on the bio of what we believe to be the subject's Instagram account.It says underneath his pseudonym: 'Saugus have fun at school tomorrow."
Vice-President Mike Pence has condoled the loss of loves in the incident and called it "another heartbreaking day for students and parents.".
Talking to a group at NASA in Northern California, he said, 'This administration will remain resolved to bring the scourge of mass shootings to an end, and we will not rest until we end this evil in our time and make our schools and our communities safe again.'
Mr Pence said President Donald Trump has directed federal law enforcement agencies to support local investigators.
All schools in Santa Clarita's William S Hart school district were temporarily locked down as a precautionary measure, but the restrictions were later lifted.
