Two killed, 72 rescued after massive fire in Gujarat's packaging factory

Surat, Oct 18 (UNI) At least two people were killed and more than 70 workers were rescued after a massive fire broke out in a packaging company's factory here in the early hours on Monday.
Ishwar Patel, Divisional Fire Officer, Surat Municipal Corporation, told UNI, "Fire broke out due to a short circuit in the basement of a five-storey building of Diva Packaging Company, located in GIDC area near Vareli Garden on Bardoli Road, about 18 km from Surat city. It continued for about 2-3 hours.
"The information about this was received by the Fire Department at around 04:45 hours. A burnt body was found from the basement and a worker died as he jumped from the fifth floor to escape from the fire."
