Two Jute Mills in Hoogly declare suspension of work for indefinite period, Nearly 10,000 workers render jobless

Kolkata, Dec 3 (UNI) Nearly 10,000 workers were today rendered jobless after the managements of the two jute mills in the Hooghly district-Rishra's Hastings Jute Mill and Chapdhani's North Brook Jute Mill, declared suspension of work for indefinite period citing shortages of raw materials and labour unrest respectively.
The workers of the two jute mills found that the suspension of work notices have been pasted on the main gate. While the poor availability of raw materials have been affecting the work at the Hastings Jute Mills for past week and working hours reduced to three to four days a week, the North Brook Jute Mill management cited the labour trouble in the past week forced them to declare suspension of work in the factory.
The workers have staged dharnas on the highway protesting the managements' decision and threatened for bigger type of agitation if the factory was not reopened shortly.
