Twenty Five passengers, including School children, died when a private bus fell into a Canal in Mandya Dist. of Karnataka

Mandya, Karnataka, Nov 24(UNI) In all 25 passengers, including School Children and women, died when a private bus, in which they were traveling plunged into

V C Canal in Kanaganamaradi village in Pandavapura Taluk in Mandya District of Karnataka today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweeter has expressed shock over the incident and condoled the deaths. AICC President Rahul Gandhi has condoled the death of more than 20 people and I convey my deep condolences to the families of the deceased he said in his tweeter.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who was on tour, cancelled all his programme and rushed to the spot. He announced compensation of Rs five lakhs to the family of each of the deceased. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also visited the spot has assured to speak to the Chief Minister to increase the compensation announced.

Speaking to newsmen on the spot, Mr Siddaramaiah, condoling the deaths, said that permit should not have been given to old bus. The incident has taken place due to negligence of bus Driver.

The incident took place at around 12 noon on Saturday when the bus was bound for Mandya from Pandavapura. The bus suddenly swerved off the road in Kanaganamaradi and toppled into the Vishveshvaraya Canal of the Cauvery river.

District Incharge Minister C S Puttaraju, who visited the spot told newsmen that so far 25 bodies were removed and it was suspected that two to three more bodies may be in the Canal.

He said that the dead included 10 women, Six men, three girls, and six Children.

The bus was removed by using a Crane.

A 7th standard student Rohit managed to jump out of the window and swam to safety. Rohit, who was in a state of shock, has been taken to a hospital.
