Turkey okays German defence minister's visit after uproar

BERLIN, Jun 27 (Reuters) Turkey today approved a visit by German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen to an air base in southern Turkey, reversing its position on an issue that drew angry responses in Germany and further strained tensions between the NATO allies.
Relations soured in May after the German parliament passed a resolution declaring the 1915 massacre of Armenians by Ottoman forces was a genocide, and Chancellor Angela Merkel now faces mounting domestic pressure to hold Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan accountable for human rights abuses and other issues.
