Turkey detains three opposition mayors over suspected terror links

Ankara, Aug 19 (UNI) Three mayors of Turkey's opposition People's Democratic Party (HDP) in eastern and southeastern Turkey were detained over suspected terror links on Monday, the Interior Ministry said.
According to the statement, the mayors of Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van provinces, Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, Ahmet Türk and Bedia Özgökçe Ertan, respectively have been suspended for supporting terrorism.

The Turkish government accuses the opposition HDP of having links to the PKK, a group that was listed as a terrorist organization by Turkish government, the United States and the EU.
Turkey dismissed dozens of mayors in the country's southeast in 2016 over suspected links to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) terror group, replacing them with state administrators.
