Trump says US could take control of Strait of Hormuz and charge allies for security

Washington, Jul 13 (UNI) US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Washington could possibly try to take control of the Strait of Hormuz and charge other countries for securing the vital waterway, as rising tensions with Iran continue to disrupt maritime traffic and complicate efforts to reach a broader peace agreement.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the US was prepared to assume a long-term security role in the strait.
"We're going to keep the Strait, and we'll probably run it. We'll become the guardian of the Strait. Maybe we'll call it the 'Guardian Angel of the Strait'. And we should be reimbursed for that," Trump said.
