Washington, May 31 (UNI) US President Donald Trump has rescheduled the Group of Seven(G7) summit from June to September, Trump also expressed his desire to invite India, Russia, Australia and South Korea for the deferred event.
Sputnik quoted Trump saying that the G7 in its current form is not representative of the current realities of the world "I don’t feel that as a G7 it properly represents what’s going on in the world. It’s a very outdated group of countries,".
The American President was addressing reporters on Saturday on Air Force One during just after his return to Washington from Cape Canaveral.
White House spokeswoman Alyssa Farah said that US allies would come together to discuss their China policy.
Earlier in May, US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien had informed that the United States was postponing the next G7 meeting till late June amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The summit was originally planned to be held on June 10. Trump had said that summit is likely to be held at the White House with some of the programmes being held at Camp David.
The G7 currently comprises of the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada, and the European Union also attends it. It remains to be seen whether the US President wishes to permanently expand the G7 or he is inviting these four countries on a one off basis.
