Udaipur, Sep 12 (UNI) India will build a 15-km railway tracks linking Tripura's capital Agartala with Bangladesh's southeastern city of Akhaura, an important railway junction connected to Chittagong port.
The Indian Railway Construction Company would lay the new railway tracks on both sides of the border. Of the 15 km rail line, five km of tracks fall in the Indian Territory, said a report, published by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics Planning (Statistics) Department Government of Tripura, Agartala.
Jishnu Debbarma, Finance Minister of Tripura told in the first budget that the railway line has been extended up to Garjee and passenger train has been connected between Agartala – Udaipur and Udaipur – Garjee. Construction works of railway line between Garjee – Belonia section is expected to be commissioned shortly. Belonia – Sabroom section is targeted for completion in June 2019. The project of Agartala – Akhaura rail line is progressing well.
