Tripura signs MoU for free Wi-Fi in colleges

Agartala, Dec 8 (UNI) The Higher Education department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reliance Jio Infocom Limited (RJIL) for providing Wi-Fi facility in all government colleges and higher learning institutions to enable digital learning facilities for students and teachers.
Higher Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said here today that soon the facilities will be extended to the institutions where access to certain sites including social media platform would be limited. The government has planned to develop e-learning habit among the students to attract them to the classes.
“The opportunity to access mobile internet and e-learning facilities through free Wi-Fi inside the campuses will help the students to study more on specific topics before attending the class lecture,” Nath said..
According to the MoU, one person will get a Wi-Fi cap for one GB internet in 4G speed every month. Initially, the facility will be there for five years and it is extendable for more three years. The RJIL, would conduct a survey in government colleges and install telecom infrastructures within four months based on the location specific demands.
The colleges/ educational institutions would arrange for the electricity required for the Wi-Fi facility.
The MoU was signed as per the guidelines of Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. Apart from this, the ministry would select a few colleges of Tripura for setting up of Skill Development Lab.
