Tripura resumes higher classes from Dec 7

Agartala, Dec 3 (UNI) With the consent of health department, the Tripura government has announced to reopen the classes for secondary level, college and university students from the next week after a break of over nine months due to Covid-19 outbreak.
Officials here on Thursday said that Covid situation in Tripura has been improving for the past two months and at present Covid infection rate reduced to 6.18 per cent while recovery rate rose to 97.3 per cent and fatality rate came down to 1.13 per cent. In the past 24 hours, only 36 people were found Covid-19 positive out of 2,181 samples but no death.
“Although, Covid situation in the state has improved visibly, the state government has directed the administration to ensure no lack in use of face masks and maintaining physical distances in public places and hand washing and use of sanitizer at individual level. There was an apprehension of spiking Covid cases in the state after festival season but it was not,” said a senior official here.
He maintained that the state government had conducted a survey recently and found over 40 percent people in most of the parts of Tripura have already developed hard immunity to fight against coronavirus. Even then there is an apprehension of another spike of Covid during the winter season for which the administration has undertaken some stringent measures besides public awareness.
The education minister Ratan Lal Nath said his department had earlier ready to start classes in the higher level from 1st Dec but health department did not agree. Later, after reviewing the situation, they have allowed classes in all high, higher secondary, colleges, universities and other professional educational institutions from December 7 next.
The classes of X and XII would resume but the students need to take consent from their guardians for attending the classes. In case of college, the Principals or authority concerned would take final decision about the routine of the classes; Nath said adding that both teachers and students have to follow all safety norms in the institution.
“We shall make all the school and college campuses clean and sanitized by this week besides, installing provision of sufficient water, hand wash and sanitizer in the institution. Teachers were also asked to keep a close on the students’ health and if felt, anybody unwell brings them to the healthcare system,” Nath added.
