Agartala, Jan 17 (UNI) Tripura government has embarked into a plan to introduce ‘one local made product from one Block’ in the line of an idea floated by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of one product for one district to make the country self-reliant, said Deputy Chief Minister holding the charge of finance and rural development portfolios Jishnu Dev Varma.
Addressing a mega credit camp for Self Help Groups (SHG) under Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), Dev Varma said that the government is keen to promote products made by SHGs at local level besides, developing forward linkage for a larger market.
“If SHG made products become commercially viable and win the hearts of customers, thousands of people, especially women, would be benefited, as SHGs are run by female folks. We are planning to motivate our rural entrepreneurs to get engaged seriously for making at least one local product for each block. So that it would not only boost the economy of the area also, introduce the block to the rest of the world,” Dev Varma stated.
The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget speech last year had talked about the idea of one district one product, and in Tripura, the government has been aspiring for one product from one block, he said adding that Tripura has an impressive track record of women run SHGs, as a non-performing asset (NPA) of SHGs are negligible perhaps best in the country.
