Tripura opposition demands Covid testing for all home comers

Agartala, May 24 (UNI) Fear gripped the capital town last evening with the detection of 16 fresh Corona cases as the tally rose to 191 even as there was no report of death so far.
Three Covid-19 cases were found in the city, while 13 others came from Mumbai by a special train. However, 152 have already recovered.
The city wore a deserted look, as two of the affected persons are residents of main commercial parts – Mantribari road and Battala area. The political parties and several organisations raised question on the testing method of the Tripura government and apprehended that the way the Covid situation is being dealt with, spike of positive cases would soon spread at community level soon.
“The state government is testing asymptomatic cases one in five persons ratio among the people who are now coming from outside the state by train including from hotspot areas. So far, seven trains from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Bangaluru have already arrived and equal number of trains is expected to come within the next week and all of them were sending to home quarantine after screening, which becomes very dangerous,” said Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee chief Pijush Kanti Biswas.
He apprehended that from tomorrow flight movement in Agartala would also start and if all home comers are allowed to move away without swab testing, the situation would go beyond control. “We want whoever will come by train, bus, car of plane has to undergo in quarantine at least for a day till test report comes negative; otherwise, situation will be very different.”
The opposition CPI (M) has also demanded that all the outsiders in Tripura should be tested.
According to report, so far 18,721 samples were tested in the state and whoever came to the state has been sent to 14 days home quarantine. And in case of air flyers, all symptomatic cases would be dealt with in the same manner. As many as 8280 passengers have arrived in the state by trains so far.
