Tripura: Minister meets Indian Commerce Consulate in Germany for organic promotion

Agartala, Feb 22 (UNI) Tripura Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ratan Lal Nath said on Thursday he had a courtesy call to Commerce Consulate General of India at Munich in Germany Amir Bashir last week and discussed the promotion and marketing of Indian organic farm produce there.
Nath, accompanied by Director of Agriculture Sharadendu Das, attended the International Organic Trade Fair in Germany along with scientists and policymakers from more than 100 countries between February 13 and 16, where organic products from the participating countries were exhibited.
Upon returning to the state, Nath told the media that the northeastern states are pioneers in organic farming in India, and Tripura is one of them. He said, “We have only 26 percent land under agriculture and horticulture activities. With the growing population and urbanization, the land mass is gradually falling, but the demand for production is swelling, which needs to increase productivity while taking all care of nature and human health.”
