Tripura initiates steps to boost tea industry: Chief Minister

Agartala, Aug 10 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb suggested to bring the private tea estates into the cooperative framework for rejuvenating the industry and enhance tea production in the state while reviewing the activities of the Tripura Tea Promotion Board yesterday.
Deb said with the growing demand for state-grown tea in the national and international market, the state government has emphasised on increasing the area of cultivation and augmentation of tea production without compromising the quality, which will pay a long term dividend to the state.
He said the state-managed tea estates have been moving towards a profitable unit but, the government thought to provide necessary assistance to the private estates, which are facing loss or having minimal productivity and added, “The concerned officials to assess the condition of the private tea gardens and to make an action plan for rejuvenating them by forming a cooperative with all those estates.”

Mizoram plans to declare ASF outbreak as ‘state disaster’

Aizawl, Oct 9 (UNI) Mizoram Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C. Lalsawivunga on Wednesday announced that the state government is working on legal and administrative formalities to declare the ongoing African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak as a ‘state disaster.’
Speaking at an event for disbursement of compensation to families affected by culling of pigs due to the ASF outbreak, coupled with a workshop on the disease, Lalsawivunga said that the state had sought the Centre’s assistance to procure drugs and vaccines to tackle ASF, and if unavailable domestically, to facilitate their import from abroad.
