Agartala, Nov 13 (UNI) Tripura government mulls an idea to established road link with
Bangladesh via Simna in northern fringe of Agartala to boost trade, commerce and
people to people relationship.
Tripura has seven formal road connectivity including two integrated check posts
with Bangladesh by which more than a thousand of people travel everyday.
While addressing a gathering on Bramhakunda annual funfair at bordering village
Simna, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday stated that he would undertake
a discussion with the central government to set up road link with Bangladesh, which
will boost tourism in both the parts.
The state government has been working on most ambitious project to develop tea
tourism in and around Simna blending with eco sustainable tourist facilities that will
not only attract Indians also Bangladeshi nationals. The villagers of Bangladesh living
10 km distance from formal roads connecting Tripura despite having immense interest
cannot travel to India because of communication bottleneck.
“In this backdrop, a 500 meter road stretch and a culvert are enough to establish
connectivity between Indian village Simna and it’s Bangladesh counterpart. There
are many more such scopes we have but need to explore with positive mindset that
will help socio-economic development of both sides of the border,” Deb said.
“I shall personally talk to the concern minister at centre and try to convince them to
get it done, as both India and Bangladesh governments have been working hard to
strengthen relationship further,” Deb attributed adding that socio-economic, cultural
and linguistic affinity among the people of Bangladesh and Tripura has given immense
opportunity to ride it.
He said the state government has been persuading for setting up of more border
haats including one in northern part of Agartala to boost economy of the people living
in border of both the countries. The border haats will also revive pre-partisan
relationship among the people in the region and Modi led government is also very
positive in this direction.
Unveiling the development plan of Tripura government for the area Chief Minister
said that they have been embarking into the plan for transforming Rajarband that
connects Laxmilunga, Lembucherra and Gandhigram into a tourism circuit under
Swadesh Darshan.
Moreover, government has targeted to make the northern parts of Agartala a hub
of education with world class school, colleges and universities, which might attract
students from Bangladesh and other countries.
