Tripura govt prevents officials below Secretary level to interact with media

Agartala, Apr 10 (UNI) Tripura government in a surprise move last night has prohibited media interaction by the government officials except for the secretary in-charge of the different departments besides, chief secretary, director general of police, principal chief conservator of forest and district magistrates.
The order issued by the general administration (administrative reform) department said, “It has come to the notice of the state government that some employees are unauthorizedly speaking/communicating to the media on official matters. In this regard, attention is drawn to Rule 8 of Tripura Civil Service (Conduct) Rules 1988, which prohibits such activities. Further, as per Rule 9, no public servant can make statement which has effect of an adverse criticism of any policy or action of the government.”
The order further stated in exercise of power under Rule 23 of Tripura Civil Service (Conduct) Rules 1988, it is decided that only the Secretary in-charge of departments of govt of Tripura, DGP, PCCF and District Magistrate and Collectors are authorized to speak to the media. Any violation of the instruction shall be viewed seriously and action will be taken against the concerned employees.
