Tripura CS removed, 14 IAS and 2 IPS transferred a day after BJP’s victory

Agartala, May 25 (UNI) Soon after withdrawal of model code of election conduct, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has removed Chief Secretary L K Gupta last night while reshuffling the responsibility of another 14 IAS and 2 IPS officers.
As soon as Deb accompanied by deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and party general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee along with both the winning candidates of BJP from Tripura left for Delhi, the official order of transfer of the officials came out.
The incumbent CS Gupta has been posted as Director General of State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD) and Principal Secretary Finance Manoj Kumar is asked to hold the interim charge of CS till new appointment is made. At the same time, Director General of Police (DGP) A K Shukla was reportedly asked to go on two months leave.
This unprecedented administrative reshuffling in Tripura has upset the bureaucracy.
Though the reason for removing Gupta from CS was not detailed, sources said that the chief minister was not happy with him for the administrative functioning during Loksabha poll. Tripura had for first time witnessed the postponement of election to East Tripura parliamentary a day before the scheduled poll following allegations of large scale violence and irregularities in the first phase polling on April 11.
The ruling party, especially the chief minister, became upset with the function of the administration and the police chief, who not only earned bad name for BJP but also for the people of the state. The chief minister when interacting with media after election results came out had made it clear that action will be taken against the officials and party leaders whose works gave bad name to the state.
Party sources, however, indicated that the chief minister is going to reshuffle his cabinet by dropping a couple of ministers for their undesirable performance in the Loksabha elections. He is scheduled to hold meeting with party national president Amit Shah in New Delhi over reshuffling of cabinet and induction of new ministers.
The reshuffling of bureaucracy is one of the most important administrative decisions of the state government. Deb, of late, sought to send a message that bulls would be taken by the horns and none would be spared if found not wholly supporting the government’s initiatives.
However, newly appointed CS Manoj Kumar has been asked to go on leave for two week abroad and is scheduled to join on June 2. Senior Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Kumar Alok will hold the responsibility of Chief Secretary. The order has also reinstead ADGP Rajiv Singh (IPS) and District Magistrate Dr Sandeep N Mahatme, who had been transferred following direction of Election Commission.
Rajiv Singh was reverted as ADGP (Law and Order) and Puneet Rastogi (IGP Crime) had been relieved from the charge of Law and Order. The District Magistrate of West Tripura Vikas Singh who was brought from Dhalai district before the repoll has been transferred and posted as Additional Secretary to Rural Development department.
