The role of Patel to unite diverse Indians against British rulers has also been
remembered by Deb.
“Sardar Patel had brought together more than 550 princely provinces of independent
India by his dedication, commitment and sheer hard work towards one India. He had
also undertaken legendary work for peasants and farmers of the country. We are here
today because of Patel like leaders but the previous government of the country did not
recognise him,” Deb stated.
He however, mentioned that Prime Minister Modi has set another milestone of
development by constructing world’s tallest statue of Patel, symbolizing the unity.
Before the world knew 153 metre height China's Spring Temple Buddha – the tallest
statue of the globe but today the statue of unity, became the tallest statue, which is
about100ft taller than Buddha, Deb mentioned.

anniversary of Sardar Patel by organizing seminar, rallies, film shows and exhibition
across the state. The educational institutions of the state have also remembered
Patel today in various programs.

ceremony of the tallest statue of the world with a height of 182 metre at Kevadiya

shatters all world records and shall be the tallest statue of the world with a height. It
will be a matter of pride for all citizens of the country, and probably the best salutation
and honor that can be given to any hero of the national freedom struggle,” Dev Varma
told UNI over phone.
The project was first announced in 2010 when PM Modi was the Gujarat CM.
Subsequently, the state government set up a special purpose vehicle for the
construction of the statue. Modi, as the then CM, had laid the foundation stone
in October 2013 and engineering firm L&T was awarded the contract.
