Tripura CM mulls to set up food processing unit in ADC village for tribal’s earning

Agartala, Apr 2 (UNI) In view of dilapidated condition of the tribal population in Tripura’s TTAADC area of Champaknagar village under the Jirania Sub-divison of West Tripura District, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday mulled for a food processing unit to be set up for tribal’s earning.
Mr Deb said, “A food processing unit shall get a good earnings for the tribal population at Champaknagar village.”
This has come up today while the Chief Minister accompanied by the state chief secretary Sanjeev Ranjan and other top officials of the West district and police officials was visiting the Champaknagar’s ADC area.
“I have seen that the tribals in this village are deprived at large from various fields especially from job opportunities, and keeping this in view I propose to set up a food processing unit here which shall have pineapples and other fruits grown in the village processed for several purpose, shall bring ample of opportunities for the tribal population,” Deb said.
Meantime, proposing to set up hydro electricity project at Champaknagar, Deb said, “Installation of dam in the river Howrah which flows through Champaknagar shall dispatch drinking water for the city dwellers at Agartala through a pipeline.”
Adding to this Mr Deb pointed out, “Once the dam is built at Champaknagar, the river water can be stocked though out the year and later this can be dispatched through pipeline to the capital town.” Currently 60 per cent of the city dwellers are deprived from drinking water.
Besides, Mr Deb while visiting the Champaknagar village on Monday morning proposed to install hydro-electricity project in the dam which can also be used to generate power for the tribal population of the village.
“I have seen that the tribal families in the village are deprived from electricity at large,” adding Mr Deb said, “If a turbine can be installed, this shall dispatch power to the derived families in the village.”
The river Howrah considered to the lifeline of Tripura’s capital town of Agartala flows through the foothills passing through important towns like Champaknagar, Jirania, Khumulwng, Khayerpur and the capital city Agartala before reaching Bangladesh.
River Howrah is the main source of drinking water for the people of Agartala and its surrounding areas from Champaknagar to Bangladesh border.
