Tripura becomes first in integration of land records in digital platform

Agartala, Dec 4 (UNI) Tripura has become the first state in the country introducing GPS-based mobile application for demarcation of forest land (patta) for the landless indigenous people under the Recognition of Forest Rights (RoFR) Act, which was launched formally by Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh yesterday.
Tripura government has already distributed over 1.86 lakh hectare of forest land to 1.31 lakh landless scheduled tribe families in last 15 years but hardly any beneficiary was able to get the physical demarcation of land due to geographical difficulties. Despite giving ownership of land on paper, the beneficiaries have neither been getting access to the land plot nor using it as an asset to harness financial benefits, officials said.
With the persuasion of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Northeast Space Application Centre developed a customized mobile application - Banadhikar App to resolve RoFR land patta issue. Using the application, geo-coordinates of the land plot would be placed on land revenue records for ensuring physical identification of the patta land, officials pointed out.
