Srinagar, Dec 29 (UNI) Train service resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended as a precautionary measure for a day in south Kashmir, where a militant was killed by security forces in Pulwama in an encounter.
However, train service was not affected in north Kashmir, where trains chugged as per schedule yesterday.
'We resumed train service in south Kashmir on Saturday after a fresh advisory was received from police last night,' a senior railway official told UNI.
He said trains were running normally since this morning on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
He said railway authorities are acting on the advice by local civil and police administration since safety and security of passengers are necessary. He said Saturday afternoon witnesses heavy rush of passengers when people are going to their homes for Sunday. Similarly, Monday morning also witness good rush when people are resuming their normal activities.
Train service has become very popular in the valley, where people consider it very cheap, safe and fast as compared to other modes of transport.
