Srinagar, Nov 27 (UNI) Train service remained suspended for the second day on Tuesday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where two encounters ensued between militants and security forces during Cordon and Search Operation (CASO).
However, train service resumed in north Kashmir after remaining suspended for a day despite strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) in areas where 4th phase of Panchayat polls was being held today.
Train service remained suspended yesterday in the valley as a precautionary measure following strike called by JRL against civilian deaths and militant killings in Kashmir during the past one week.
A senior railway official told UNI this morning that train service remained suspended on Budgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. A fresh advisory was received early this morning not to resume train service on this track for security reasons, he said.
Hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at different railway stations in south Kashmir and Banihal, were disappointed after they were informed that all train runs have been suspended today. The passengers alleged that no prior announcement was made about suspension of the train service. It will be a field day for cabs and other transporters who are charging several times more than train fare, they said.
Train service on this track was resumed only on Sunday after remaining suspended for three days, where six militants were killed in an encounter by security forces in Anantnag on Friday.
However, train service on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir was resumed today after remaining suspended yesterday.
