Train service remains suspended for security reasons in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 16 (UNI) Train service remained suspended for the second successive day on Sunday for security reasons in Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a strike against the death of seven civilians in clashes in Pulwama.
Train service was suspended on Saturday in the valley following death of seven civilians in clashes, which triggered after an encounter ensued between militants and security forces in Pulwama that left three ultras dead. An Army jawan was also martyred in the encounter.
“No train will chug on Badgam-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region for the second day today,” a Railway official told UNI.
Similarly, he said no train will on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir.
“The decision was taken after receiving a fresh advisory from police last evening not to resume train service in the valley on Sunday,” he said.
“We are acting on the advice of local administration, including police as security, and keeping in view the safety of passengers besides railway officials and property,” he added.
Train service has become very popular in Kashmir valley as it is being considered economical, fast and safe against other modes of transport service available.
