Train engine catches fire in Bihar

Patna, Jan 15 (UNI) Panic gripped passengers aboard 12402 Down New Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express when the train`s engine caught fire near Veer Kuer Singh halt in Buxar district today.
Official source said here the engine of Magadh Express caught fire near Veer Kuer Singh halt between Raghunathpur and Tudiganj railway stations creating panic among passengers.

Sources said that passengers started running helter-skelter in fear when they noticed flames leaping out from the engine. Huge swath of smoke was also found billowing out from the engine.
Some passengers jumped from the running train leaving several of them injured. The train driver applied emergency brake and saved the situation from taking a serious turn.

Sources said that fire which had started from engine also spread to parcel van just behind the engine.

Train services on down line of Patna-Mughalsarai section had been suspended in view of the mishap. Fire tenders struggled hard to douse raging flames. The train resumed its onward journey later.
The reason behind fire in engine is being investigated, sources added.
