Traffic from Pantha Chowk to Pampore highway remains diverted

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) Traffic remained suspended on the Kashmir highway between Pantha Chowk to Pampore for security reasons despite the fact that all the three militants, holed up in a government building since February 20 afternoon, were killed. Though the militants have been killed yesterday afternoon, the road was still under security forces, a traffic police official told UNI. All vehicles, including those carrying passenger, leaving Srinagar for Jammu are still taking alternative routes. He said security forces have closed the road at Pantha Chowk from Srinagar side and Pampore from south Kashmir. All vehicles going from Srinagar to south Kashmir and Jammu on the highway, are still being diverted through other routes, including Sumarbugh. Similarly, vehicles coming from south Kashmir and Jammu are also being diverted through other routes. However, he said normal traffic could be restored in the afternoon when the area is declared safe. On February 20, militants had attacked a CRPF vehicle, killing two personnel and injuring 13 others, including an Assistant Commandant at Sempora. Three PARA commandos and an employee Abdul Gani of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), where the militants were holed up, were also killed. Three unidentified militants were killed after about 48 hours of operation yesterday afternoon. However, the area was still being searched to make sure there is no explosive left there.
