Tourist Taxi strike withdrawn, Goa CM forms committee to look into grievances

Panaji, Apr 12 (UNI) Following an assurance from Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar that their concerns would be addressed, the two tourist taxi owners associations in the state withdrew their strike today.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Altinho after holding hour-long meeting with the office-bearers of the associations along with MLAs and Tourism Minister Dilip Parlekar, the Chief Minister said, ''the demands of the associations are genuine. I have decided to form a 11-member committee comprising six MLAs, two SPs, two collectors and Transport Director to look into the issue and submit a report within four weeks. I have ordered to take action against those who were running illegal vehicles be it two wheeler or four wheeler. Action will be taken against those giving private vehicles on rent.''
Calangute MLA Michale Lobo, who is member of the committee, said it was third strike in the recent time by the taxi owners in the state which was not a good sign as it was sending wrong message among the tourists.
