Patna, May 10 (UNI) Bihar Tourism Minister Kedar Prasad Gupta on Sunday said that the state government would promote tourism over the next five years to generate employment and create self-employment opportunities for the youth.
Gupta said that tourism is not merely a means of travel and recreation but also a strong driver of employment, trade and economic development.
He said the growth of tourism would directly benefit local artists, handicraft workers, cultural performers and small traders, creating large-scale livelihood opportunities across the state.
The minister said the government would undertake extensive national and international promotion of Bihar’s tourist destinations to attract more visitors from across India and abroad.
He added that the government aims to establish Bihar not only as a land of historical significance but also as a modern tourism destination.
Gupta urged officials and employees of the department to work collectively as a team with full commitment to take Bihar’s tourism sector to new heights. He assured that the Tourism Department would function in accordance with the aspirations of the people and that public interest would remain the government’s top priority.
He highlighted Bihar’s rich cultural, historical and spiritual heritage, noting that the state is associated with Gautama Buddha attaining enlightenment, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, the penance of Mahavira, and the sacred memories of Goddess Sita.
He said the soil of Bihar possesses a unique blend of history, culture, and spirituality capable of attracting people from across the world.
The minister stated that the department’s objective is to establish Bihar among the leading tourism states of India and globally.
Under this vision, the government plans comprehensive development of religious, historical, and cultural tourism sites along with beautification of major destinations and improvement of infrastructure including roads, lighting, sanitation, security and tourist facilities, he added.
