TN: Two colleges, 8 schools in Tiruchirapalli receive bomb threat emails

Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu), Oct 3 (UNI) Two private autonomous colleges and eight schools at various locations in Tiruchirapalli district received bomb threats via email on Thursday.
Police said St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), a 180-year-old reputed institution, Holy Cross College (Autonomous) for Women, besides Campion Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Samadh Higher Secondary School, Montfort School, Achariya Siksha Mandir School (CBSE), Rajam Krishnamurthy Public School, and Amrita Vidyalayam School, among eight schools in the city and rural parts of the district, received an email this morning threatening that a bomb would explode in the institutions.
Upon information, the senior police officials, along with Tamil Nadu Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department personnel, split into different groups and conducted a thorough check inside the premises of the institutions.
Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service.
No explosives were found so far, and the search is still going on.
The bomb threat is suspected to be a hoax, the police said after preliminary investigations.
Though the email sender’s name was identified as Swetha Balakrishnan, a detailed investigation is underway by the Cyber Crime wing police to ascertain the sender and also to track the Internet Protocol address from where the mail has been sent to the educational institutions.
This is the third bomb threat issued to many schools in Tamil Nadu over the last few weeks.
Earlier, on August 29 last, the Indian Public School headquartered at Erode and its campuses at Salem, Tiruchirapalli, and Tirunelveli received hoax bomb threat emails, while four CBSE schools in Madurai received similar threats on September 30, last.
