Bengaluru, Nov 10 (UNI) Hundreds of BJP workers, including former Minister C T Ravi, former Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, were taken into custody for staging protest violating prohibitory orders in force in different districts against celebrations of Tipu Jayanthi sponsored by the JD(S)-Congress Government on Saturday.
While Mr Bopaiah and BJP workers were taken into custody at Virajpet in Kodagu District for staging protest. MLA, Appachu Ranjan and MLC Sunil Subramanya were also detained.
In Madikeri town the the headquarter of Kodagu, a spontaneous bandh was observed in protest against the celebration. All most all the business establishment downed their shutters. Tourist vehicles including jeeps that take tourists to various destinations, private buses and autorickshaws were off the road. However state-owned KSRTC buses operated, officials said.
In Chikkamagaluru Mr Ravi was taken into custody when he tried to take out silent procession covering his mouth with black scarfs.
BJP workers took out bike rally in Ballari violating prohibitory orders protesting against the Tipu Jayanthi celebration and it was stopped and the protesters disbursed.
More than 40 BJP workers, including former BJP State President and Lok Sabha member Prahalad Joshi were taken into custody at Hubbali in Dharwad District when they tried to stage protest against the Tipu Jayanthi celebration. Mr Joshi questioned the Police about the need for clamping Prohibitory orders.
