New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will be arriving India for the first time in his official capacity on a three-day visit to India beginning Tuesday. According to sources, he is expected to arrive here on Tuesday evening and stay in Delhi till October 26. The tentative itinerary says, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet him at around 1130 hours. This will be followed by media interaction. The visiting dignitary will call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the afternoon at his official residence 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Mr Tillerson will be leaving Delhi the next day in the morning, sources said. His visit would also underline yet again Washington's preference of New Delhi for a greater Indian role in Afghanistan. Afghan President Dr Mohamad Ashraf Ghani will also arrive Delhi for a one-day working visit. The Trump administration has indicated that it wants India to emerge as a key player in its Afghan strategy – something underlined by US Defence Secretary James Mattis as well. India has, however, made it clear that while it will boost the socio-economic conditions of the Afghan people and push developmental projects, it will not commit troops. The latest American gestures as were reflected in eloquent speech of the US Secretary of State at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington on October 18 could also leave a “considerable impact” on the balance of power in the South China Sea. Mr Tillerson on Monday visited Afghanistan capital Kabul and held discussions with Afghan President Ghani. UNI DEVN SDR 2104
