New Delhi, Jun 30 (UNI) TikTok India on Tuesday issued a statement hours after being banned by India along with 58 other Chinese apps, saying it was complying with government's order.
Nikhil Gandhi, Head of TikTok India, said that the app is in the process of complying with the government's 'interim order'.
According to Mr Gandhi's statement "The government of India has issued an interim order for the blocking of 59 apps, including Tik Tok and we are in the process of complying with it. We have been invited to meet with concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications.'
'Tik Tok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and has not shared any information of our users in India with any government, including the Chinese government,' it stated.
'Further if we are requested in the future we will not do so. We place the highest importance on user privacy and integrity,' the statement added.
The statement further stressed that TikTok has democratised the internet by making it available in 14 Indian languages, with hundreds of millions of users, artists, story-tellers, educators and performers depending on it for their livelihood, many of whom are first time internet users.
Currently, the app has been removed from Apple's App Store and Google Play Store.
The government has banned 59 China-origin apps on Monday night in view of information available that they are engaged in activities prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of the country.
The move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users, it said.
The ban on the Chinese apps comes in the backdrop of current stand-off along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh with Chinese troops.
The apps include TikTok, Shareit, Kwai, UC Browser, Baidu map, Shein, Clash of Kings, DU battery saver, Helo, Likee, YouCam makeup, Mi Community, CM Browers, Virus Cleaner, Club Factory, Newsdog, Beutry Plus, WeChat and UC News.
Apps like Mi Video Call – Xiaomi, WeSync, ES File Explorer, Viva Video – QU Video Inc, DU Cleaner, DU Browser, Hago Play With New Friends, Cam Scanner, We Meet and Sweet Selfie were also banned.
