Tibetan Himalayan Region near Parechu Lake well-connected: Satellite data

Shimla, Jul 16 (UNI) The Tibetan Himalayan Region near Parechu Lake seems well-connected because of the development activities like road network, being developed in the area by China, the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science Technology and Environment said on Thursday, quoting the satellite data of IRS-R2, taken on June 27, 2020.
Joint Member Secretary of HIMCOSTE Nishant Thakur said in a report issued on the Parechu Lake here that so far, no threat is being evaluated from Parechu lake, situated in Tibetan Himalayan region.
''Based on satellite data interpretation, there does not seem to be any threat from the Parechu Lake as on day, but it needs regular monitoring till its freezing,'' the report maintained.
HIMCOSTE is regularly monitoring the lake, since its formation in the month of April.
Based on the Satellite analysis, the accumulated water in the lake depression seems to be flowing through the peripheral sides, with some water on the upstream side.
Two landslides could also be observed along the river course. One on upstream side of the depression on the left bank of the river and second on the downstream side of the depression on the right bank of the river, he added.
''Though the inflow and outflow seems to be normal,'' observed Mr Thakur, adding that though the landslide on the left side on the upstream also seems to be encroaching the river course, but no significant change in the river flow could be seen.
The outflow from Parechu Lake is not alarming, but in case the water gathers speed and volume, it can trigger flash floods in the downstream areas, the report revealed.
The Parechu Lake was formed, after landslides had blocked the Parechu River in June, 2004. Originating from Tibet, the river is a tributary of Spiti River.
The State Centre on Climate Change (SCCC), under the aegis of HIMCOSTE, is keeping an eye on the lake, as it caused lot of devastation in the first decade of this century, when the flooded embankments gatecrashed into the Indian Side of western Himalayas. Parechu river enters Satluj at Khab in Kinnuar district.
The towns and villages, which are likely to face a flood threat in case of eventuality, include Leo, Sumdo (in Lahul and Spiti), Khab, Dubling, Spillow, Powari,Tapri, Nathpa, Kaksthal, Choling (Army establishments), Wangtu, Bhaba Nagar (in Kinnaur), Katalu, Jagatkhana, Chati, Bro, Nogli, Duttnagar, Nirsu, Nirath, Luhari and Bahna (in Shimla district).

Ayodhya: MP CM rains fire on Cong

04 Aug 2020 | 1:17 AM

Bhopal, Aug 3 (UNI) The beleaguered Congress camp – which no-holds-barred political observers describe as ‘outnumbered, outmanoeuvred and outgunned’ – sustained a sarcasm-laced broadside on Monday when Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, without naming anyone, averred that the party’s leaders who denied the very existence of Lord Ram are now busying themselves in determining which moment will be auspicious for the much-awaited Ayodhya temple’s ‘bhoomi pujan’.
“Invoking Raghav’s name itself makes a moment propitious. The Congress is coursing towards decline on account of its inferior ideology and playing with the faith of Sanatan Dharm. For that party, Ram may be a political subject but for us He is a symbol of devotion and belief. In the Puranic period, when rishis performed yajna they were targeted by asuras and rakshasas. The Congress bigwigs are playing the latter role,” the senior Bharatiya Janata Party politician conveyed via social media.
