Three forest officials suspended in tree felling case of Tripura

Agartala, Jun 5 (UNI) The state government has suspended three forest officials following
cut down of a number of old trees in VIP colony of the city two weeks ago, for which high
court of Tripura registered suo motto PIL and issued notice against forest department.
Forest Minister Mevar Kr Jamatia today said that Range officer Sujit Chakma, forester
Abhijit Acharjee and beat officer Bimal Kumar Sharma was suspended from the service
as soon as the matter was reported to the state government. Also an enquiry has been
initiated against the incidence of tree felling in the most guarded area.
He said the state government has taken a serious note to the incidence and reportedly,
the families living outside the campus might have involvement in the crime, as a few of
them have already been accused of unauthorisedly occupying land in the campus. The
revenue department has been asked to go for immediate demarcation of the area
followed by PWD department will raise boundary wall around.
