New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot on Sunday expressed the Centre's commitment to empowerment and inclusion of people with disabilities, saying all steps were being taken to improve their lives by use of IT technology.
Speaking at the award ceremony on the conclusion of the three-day “Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities, 2018” held here, he said the government had launched several schemes and programmes for the welfare of the people with disabilities.
He emphasised the need to improve accessibility of Divyang Youth to IT communities so that they could participate in the activities of the society just like other youth. He said that efforts should be made to improve IT skills among these youngsters.
Thailand won maximum of six awards followed by the Philippines with five. India bagged three awards, including Super Challenger awards. Manjot Singh from India bagged two awards in e-tool challenge and e-life map challenge under visual disability category while Saurav Kumar Sinha won the Super Challenger award.
Ms Fayza Putri, Adila from Indonesia won the ‘Global IT Leader Award’.
This year, 96 youth with disabilities ranging from visual disability, hearing disability, locomotor disability and
intellectual disability/developmental disorder from 18 countries took part in the event.
Besides India, the participants hailed from Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Mongolia, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, UK and UAE.
