Textiles Ministry clears 20 projects in specialty fibres, geotextiles

New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The Ministry of Textiles on Monday cleared 20 strategic research projects worth Rs 30 crore in the areas of specialty fibres and geotextiles. These projects fall under the flagship national technical textiles mission programme.
Of these 20 research projects, 16 specialty fibre projects were cleared, including 5 projects in healthcare, 4 in industrial and protective, 3 in energy storage, 3 in textile waste recycling, one in agriculture and 4 projects in geotextiles (infrastructure) were cleared. Various institutes, centres of excellence and government organisations participated in the session.
"Industry and academia connect is essential for the growth of research and development in the application areas of technical textiles in India," said Commerce & Industry and Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal, chairing the event.
Goyal also called for high value-added products, building a structure of brainstorming around problem statements and inter-ministerial synergy for attracting mega research projects in the country. Last year, 11 research projects worth Rs 78.60 crore were cleared by the Ministry of Textiles on 26 March, 2021.
