Terror Attack: SFs suspend Op, traffic diverted, civilian injured in firing

Jammu, Sep 12 (UNI) The Security Forces on Wednesday evening suspended the search operation, which was being carried out in view of terror attack and terrorists escaping from the spot, while traffic on the highway was diverted from Bajalta-Surinsar road, as a preventive measure.
Meanwhile, one of the civilians also suffered injuries, when terrorists opened fire at a check point near Jhajjar Kotli, here on city outskirts.
''The operation has been suspended due to darkness, while no contact has been established so far,'' Vivek Gupta, SSP Jammu, here told UNI.
The operation will resume with the first light on Thursday.
Panic gripped the Jammu-Srinagar national highway this morning, when terrorists attacked the check post near Jhajjar Kotli.
''During the routine checking of vehicles, suspected terrorists travelling in a truck opened fire at the frisking party,'' police sources here said.
They said three terrorists fled away from the spot, while a search operation was launched to apprehend them, but so far no contact has been established.
''The driver and the helper of the truck were detained, while one Ak rifle with three magazines was also recovered from the truck,'' sources added.
The injured civilian was identified as Ganesh Dass (54), resident of Jhajjar Kotli. He has been hospitalised, police added.
Meanwhile, schools in the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli were closed as a preventive measure, they added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, on its official Twitter page, also posted that one AK rifle and three magazines were recovered from the intercepted truck.
''Driver, conductor taken into custody. Three suspected militants, who ran away from the truck, are being chased. Police, Army and the CRPF are activated. Cordon and search operation is on ahead of Suketar near Katra crossing National Highway,'' it said.
The official spokesman said that in view of present security situation, there will be restrictions on vehicles movement from Nagrota to Jhajjar Kotli for tonight.
''There will be diversion from Nagrota and vehicles will have to go by alternate road, that is Surinsar route and Manyal road,'' he added.
Hours after terrorists fired at a police party, Police issued a lookout notice.
''On Wednesday morning at about 0800 hrs, a brief encounter took place between police and terrorists in Jhajjar Nalla near police station Jhajjar Kotli,'' a police spokesman here said.
''They are three in number, in the age group 18 to 22, two of them have AK rifles and third one has a pistol,'' said the Spokesman.
National Conference Provincial President and MLA Nagrota Devender Singh Rana, speaking over the incident of firing on para-military forces near Jajjar Kotli Police Post, said the peace loving people of his Constituency will fight terror in all its manifestations with full might.
''Terrorism is a biggest challenge to the civilised world and this scourge is needed to be fought unitedly,'' Mr Rana told mediapersons, adding that there is no place for terror violence in the society.
The MLA Nagrota camped at the site for the entire day to oversee that the civilian population is not affected due to firing and collateral damage is averted.
He visited various localities to boost morale of the civilian population, which, he said, is co-operating the security forces in carrying out search operations.
He lauded the fortitude of the patriotic people of the area, saying they want end to the dastardly and unfortunate incident.
To a question, Mr Rana said the strategically-located Nagrota Constituency at the National Highway will not allow any sort of terror, either to germinate or sustain on its soil. He said people of the constituency, as elsewhere in the state, would stand guard against any machination, aimed at weakening the national security.
