New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The Government has curtailed, with immediate effect, the tenure of Special Director Rakesh Asthana, who was in news because of his confrontation with former director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Alok Verma.
A proposal in this regard was on Thursday approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet
Along with Mr Asthana, the tenure of Joint Director of the investigation agency Arun Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General Manish Kumar Sinha and Superintendent of Police Jayant J Nayakneware has also been curtailed.
An FIR was registered against Asthana on allegations of corruption, which he had challenged in the Delhi High Court.
Due to a dispute with Mr Verma, he was sent on leave a few months ago and was still on leave.
Due to the dispute between the two top officers of the agency, Mr Verma was also sent on leave.
Mr Verma had challenged this in the Supreme Court, which had on January 8 ordered that he be restored to his position.
However, a day after the Court's order, the selection committee for appointing CBI Director had removed Mr Verma from his post.
After this, he was appointed as the DG of Fire Service, but he had declined the post and gave resignation.
