Tens of thousands of devotees line up on highway for Ayyappa Jyothi

Kozhikode, Dec 26 (UNI) Tens of thousands of devotees, comprising men, women and children, participated in the “Ayyappa Jyothi” organised by the Sabarimala Karma Samithi, symbolising solidarity of devotees of Lord Ayyappa, in protecting the shrine from the entry of women aged ten to 50 years, in Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.
Chanting Ayyappa slogans and carrying lighted holy "elluthiri" (a ritualistic lamp for Lord Ayyappa) in "chirag" (tiny carried made of clay), the devotees lined up all along the highway from Hosangadi (the northern border of Kerala near Manjeswaram in Kasaragod) upto Kaliyikavila in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports, the devotees chain, covering a distance of 795 kilometres, were almost without any notable gap, throughout the entire stretch.
Earlier, Swami Chidanandapuri of the Kolathur Adyavthasram here, who is also the chief patron of the Sabarimala Karma Samithi, inaugurated the ritualistic demonstration at Thiruvangoor near here in the evening. The traditional lamp lighting continued till 6-30 in the evening. According to Swami Chidanandapuri, the ritualistic lighting of Jyothi is an attempt to expose the forces that were trying to destroy the plurality and diversity of temples and as an offering to Lord Ayyappa.
