New Delhi, Dec 22 (UNI) After not being able to deliver his maiden speech in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Sachin Tendulkar on Friday took to social media platform Facebook and shared his vision of a healthy and a fit India.
In a 15-minute long video, the master blaster expressed his wish to transform India from a sport-loving nation to a sport-playing nation beside explaining the importance of fitness in a young India.
"My vision is healthy and fit India. We are a diabetic capital of the world with over 75 billion people affected by this disease. And when it comes to obesity, we are sitting at no.3 spot in the world. The economic burden of these diseases will not allow our nation to progress," Tendulkar said.
"Our fitness sessions are declining while our food sessions are on the rise, we should change this habit. Many of us only discuss and don't play at all. We need to transform India from a sport loving nation to a sport playing nation," he further said.
Earlier yesterday, Tendulkar, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, wasn't able to deliver his speech in the house as Congress leaders had created a ruckus which led to the adjournment of the proceedings.
Tendulkar also mentioned Dipa Karmakar, Bhaichung Bhutia, Mary Kom and Mirabai Chanu in his speech and described them as examples of the North-East’s excellence in sports.
"The north-east of India, which has only 4 per cent population of India, has a vibrant sporting culture. It has produced many sporting heroes, including our boxing icon Mary Kom, recently crowned champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu,Deepa Karmakar, Bhaichung Bhutia, Sarita Devi, Sanjita Chanu and many, many more," he said.
