Telangana state receives 16 pc deficit rainfall during water year up to March

Hyderabad, Apr 27 (UNI) Telangana state has received 16 per cent deficit rainfall as compared to normal rainfall during the water year 2018-19 (up to March 2019).

The State as a whole received 724 mm rainfall (till March-2019) against the normal rainfall of 865 mm,
during same period , State Ground Water Department said in a statement here on Saturday.

The southwest monsoon contributes 79 per cent of normal rainfall while 14 per cent is contributed by northeast monsoon and rest by other seasons in the State of Telangana.

Out of 33 districts, 16 districts received normal rainfall (-19 per cent to +19 per cent) and 17 districts received
deficit rainfall (-20 per cent to -59 per cent).

Out of 584 mandals, 31 mandals received excess rainfall (+20 per cent and above to normal), 246 mandals received normal rainfall (-19 per cent to +19 per cent), 293 mandals received deficit rainfall (-20 per cent to -59 per cent) and 14 mandals received scanty rainfall (-60 per cent and above) falling in Nalgonda, Yadadri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy and Nagarkurnool districts.

It is also observed that Sangareddy district received -46 per cent deficit rainfall and Peddapalli district received +17 per cent normal rainfall while the deficit rainfall is more predominant in central southern and south-eastern part of State and normal rainfall is prevalent in northern and northeastern districts the State.
