Telangana sona's low GI rice availabe in over 120 stores in Hyderabad : Deccan Mudra

Hyderabad, Sep 14 (UNI) Deccan Muudra Agri Private Limited on Tuesday said that Telangana sona’s low Glycemic Index (GI) rice, which is suitable for diabetics and developed by the Scientists at PJTSAU, is available in over 120 stores in Hyderabad and in more than 30 stores in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Bangalore.
Deccan Mudra has taken its brand across multiple channels and cities and they are also trying to establish a strong distributor network in Vijayawada, Chennai, Madurai and Bangalore, the company said in a release here.
In January this year, the company entered into an MOU with Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, (PJTSAU), for commercialization of production and marketing of Telangana Sona rice (RNR 15048) variety developed by the University.
The variety is a short duration, superfine grain and blast resistant rice variety and it is classified under low Glycemic Index (GI) category .
Low GI white rice and rice products sourced directly from farmers, Telangana Sona rice tastes and cooks like regular white rice but has a lower GI of 51 compared to brown rice (68), wheat roti (62), and quinoa (53), the release said.
There are three different types of rice available, which are single polished and regular rice, it said the best part of this rice is that its GI is lower than wheat and brown rice and diabetic people can eat and those who are health conscious can also eat.
Higher yield, shorter growing cycle and less need for pesticides has endeared Telangana Sona to farmers, however in the state alone, currently in seven lakh acres Telangana Sona rice is being cultiviated.
Deccan Mudra works directly with farmers and supports them throughout the crop cycle by giving them seeds procured from the university, timely support for issues faced by the farmers and more importantly getting into Buy-Back agreements with their partner farmers ensuring they get a fair price for their produce and not going through the hassles of middle-men.
In the last 3 seasons, more than 120 farmers benefitted with this arrangement and are extremely happy knowing their hard-earned produce is reaching the distant corners of the country, the release said.
In addition to retail, they are also listed on most of the popular E-commerce channels like Flipkart and Amazon as well.
They are currently growing and procuring Telangana Sona Rice from Ibrahimpur and the organic variant of the rice from Dubbaka and Janagaon in the state.
In addition to having this variant of rice, they also have a low GI-rice flour variant which is equally beneficial.
Additionally, they also have plans to introduce other products like Black Rice, Sunflower Seeds and Wood pressed Sunflower oil by working closely with their partner farmers ensuring complete traceability of their produce, the release added.
