Hyderabad, Jan 26 (UNI) Telangana police detained Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad ahead of a planned protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), here on Sunday evening.
The local administration had not given permission for the protest. However, Mr Azad, along with his supporters, were going to Mehdipatnam to address the protest rally when they were taken into custody, according to Lungerhouse police.
Mr Azad was taken into custody as the permission was not granted for the public protest. Subsequently, he and his supporters were shifted to Bolaram police station.
Mr Azad's detention comes barely 10 days after his release on bail from Tihar Jail on January 16.
He was arrested on charges of inciting a crowd to take up an anti-CAA protest in the national capital's Daryaganj area last month.
The Dalit leader wrote a Twitter message regarding his detention 15 minutes before the reports of his detention emerged.
"Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad has been detained by the Hyderabad police," the tweet read.
