Telangana minister opens first EDGE-certified bio sciences facility

Hyderabad, Sep 16 (UNI) Telangana’s IT & Industries Minister, D Sridhar Babu, inaugurated 3GV, the world’s first IFC-EDGE Advanced Certified Life Sciences facility, in Genome Valley on Monday.
Owned by Rx Propellant, the Rs 105 crore facility spans 150,000 square feet and supports over 1,000 people. It emphasises sustainability with reduced energy, water use, and carbon footprint.
Minister Sridhar Babu also visited Synopolis to participate in the Vision Forum, part of the Genome Valley Connect 2024 event, where he engaged with 50-60 key industry leaders. Discussions focused on innovation and future opportunities for Genome Valley.
During the event, the minister launched the blueprint and logo for the Hyderabad International Lifesciences Square (HILS), a 300-acre international life sciences corridor in Genome Valley Phase 2. HILS is expected to host cutting-edge facilities and global collaborations, further positioning Hyderabad as a key player in the global life sciences industry.
Speaking at the event, Minister Sridhar Babu said, “Genome Valley is leading the way for our ambitions. The HILS will usher in a new era for the life sciences ecosystem, serving as a launchpad for international giants and driving innovation and collaboration. These state-of-the-art facilities are about more than infrastructure; they represent a future where Telangana leads in life sciences and attracts major international investments.”
At the 3GV inauguration, Milind Ravi, CEO of Rx Propellant, emphasised the facility’s sustainability: “We are proud to announce the inauguration of 3GV, our flagship life sciences facility in Genome Valley, Hyderabad. Achieving the world’s first IFC-EDGE Advanced certification for a speculative life sciences building reflects our focus on sustainability and innovation. With 41 percent less energy consumption, 87 percent reduced water usage, and a 25 percent decrease in embodied carbon compared to conventional buildings, 3GV sets a new benchmark for environmentally responsible infrastructure.” He also highlighted the company's commitment to achieving EDGE Net Zero certifications for future projects.
Vishal Goel, Managing Director of Rx Propellant, spoke about the company’s role in HILS, stating, “Through HILS, we reaffirm our commitment to providing well-equipped spaces for scientific communities and fostering a collaborative ecosystem for innovation. Our goal is to create environments that advance life sciences research and development, contributing to groundbreaking advancements globally.”
Genome Valley, India’s first organised life sciences cluster, continues to grow as a major centre for life sciences research and development. With international pharma giants based there, the valley is strengthening its reputation as a global hub for innovation and economic growth in the life sciences sector, a company statement said.
