Telangana Govt prepares comprehensive plan for promotion of sports in state: Minister

Hyderabad, Sep 20 (UNI) Telangana Sports and Youth Services V Srinivas Goud informed the Assembly on Friday that the government has prepared a comprehensive plan for encouraging and promotion of sports in the State.
In a written reply to a questions from members, Mr Goud said after formation of the state, the government has established the Sports School at Adilabad with Rs 80 lakh along with necessary infrastructure.
The government has also established two Sports Academies at Saroonagar and Wanaparthy, the Minister said.
He said that the National level and Rural level Tournaments in Basketball and Wrestling and Women Tournaments in Basketball, Gymnastics and Swimming were conducted. Apart from this, many mega events like Asian Badminton Championship, National Badminton Championship, Federation Cup Champion tennis League, National Table Tennis Championship & Deaf Nationals were sponsored by the Government of Telangana.
Mr Goud said the government has also increased the financial assistance to the State Sports associations for conducting International, National, South Zone and State level competitions and released Rs 18.41 crore.
The Minister said the state government has taken a policy decision for construction of Green Field Mini Sports Stadium in each Assembly Constituencies in a phased manner. Out of 119 Assembly Constituencies, in 89 Assembly Constituencies, stadiums were completed and the remaining are under process.
He said that the government,under revised new sports policy, had enhanced the cash incentives to the players who won the medals in the Olympics (Gold Rs 25 lakh to Rs 2 crore, Silver Rs 16 lakh to Rs 1 crore and Bronze Rs 10 lakh to 50 lakh).
Similarly the cash incentives for Asian Games, CommonWealth Games, National Games, SAF Games and Chess Titles were also enhanced.
After formation of Telangana state, the government has released the cash incentives of Rs 24.87 crore, he said.
The Government has issued the cash reward of Rs 5 crore to Ace Shuttler P V Sindhu who won the Silver Medal in Rio Olympics 2016 held at Brazil, and Rs 1 crore to P Gopichand, her coach as a special incentive, the Minister added.
